Day #13: Talk about your piercings or tattoos, if you have any.
Let me start by saying that I didn't post for day 11 or 12. I didn't want to write about the topics so I decided those days would be skipped.
Todays post is in regards to tattoos and piercings. Which I have and have had. I have my ears pierced just the lobes. I used to have an industrial which is a piercing in the top part of your ear with a barbell. Its hard to explain so if you get a chance look it up online. I really enjoyed it and it looked cute but it wouldn't heal properly and my hair constantly go caught in it. It was painful when that happened so I took it out. I also had my tongue pierced but I took that out as well. I regret ever getting it. The damage it did to my teeth was not worth it at all.
To all you kids out there who think its cute and want to get it done DON'T!!!
As far as tattoos go I have 4. I have my sister Reginas name on my left arm and my sister Jessicas name on my right arm. On my back I have a scorpion and smoke. The smoke wasn't originally there but it was a cover up. A cover up tattoo is a tattoo you get over another tattoo you had to cover it up.
This is the tattoo before the cover up. The blue ink is the outline of the new tattoo that was put over it. As you can see there is a ribbon underneath the scorpion with a birthdate in it. Ah, the moronic things you do when you are young and think you are in love. Never, I repeat NEVER get anything to do with a boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, or husband, tattooed on you.
Here is the tattoo after it was finished. I love it. It looks great. It took 4 hours to complete but it was well worth. it. The guy who did it did a great job. I got the scorpion when I was 18 and got it because I am a Scorpio. Yes, typical I know. But like I said I was 18. I have to say though that I love it and its part of me and my past.
Do you have any tattoos? I would love for you to share.
Day #10: Post your favorite quote.
My favorite quote isn't by a famous philosopher, a celebrity, or an author. My favorite quote is by my grandfather Laurence Spargo. The quote is "Will the frost hurt the rhubarb?" To some this may be weird but to me it means a great deal. This is something special my grandpa used to say all the time and it will forever stay with me.
My grandpa was an amazing man. He had so much love inside him and his family meant the world to him. I couldn't imagine ever having any other grandpa. He always had an opinion and an answer for things. Its like his wisdom never failed. He would do anything he could to help family and you knew you could always count on him. He had some things that made him upset. Like using the telephone to much and using computers. He never understood computers very well lol. It drove him crazy.
There are some things that will always remind me of my grandpa. My grandpa used to jingle the change in his pocket. I remember that sound like he was standing next to me doing it now. He used to sit in his recliner, which is all he ever sat in, and would rub the arm of the recliner. I'm not sure he even knew he was doing it or if it was just out of habit. He use to walk up to me with such a serious look on his face and tell me he had a question. I immediately thought I was in trouble lol. He would always ask me the same thing though..."Will the frost will hurt the rhubarb?" I would just smile and the answer depended on the day. He would just smile back. The one thing that I could never ever forget is the love he had for my grandma. He loved her so much. It was like that love you always want. That unconditional, last a lifetime love. You could just see the love he had for her when he looked at her or talked about her. It was the kind of love I hoped one day I would find.
Here they are together at his 90th birthday party. I love these two pictures. The way he is looking at her and how happy they are together.
My grandpa passed away in February of 2012. He was 91 when he passed and he lived a long, loved and happy life. He had dementia and it really took a toll on him. He went downhill fairly quickly and its still kind of hard to believe. My grandfather wore his age so well for a long time. Then it was like all of the sudden his age caught up to him. Things started slowly like him no longer being able to drive. Then he started having other problems. His breathing due to COPD, his memory, his mobility. It was like once it started it wouldn't stop. My grandpa got put on hospice when he stopped eating and his dementia just took over. He didn't remember anybody very well and to be totally honest it was heartbreaking. Watching my grandpa go through that and not being able to help him was one of the hardest things I have ever been through.
The reason this quote is my favorite is because it was one of the last things I said to my grandpa and knew he remembered me. I stood at the end of his bed and told him "Grandpa I have a question for you.". He just looked at me. "Grandpa, do you think the frost will hurt the rhubarb?" He smiled so big at me and I knew he knew what I meant. It was one of those moments that I needed at that time. Just one moment of clarity to know that my Grandpa knew who I was and how much I loved him.
Words can not express how much I miss my Grandpa. I miss him everyday. He was such an amazing man to me and my family and I will always remember that. I know that he is with me and always looking down on me and that is comforting. They say that time heals the pain but I don't agree with that. I think that over time you just learn to deal with the pain. I love you Grandpa and miss you so very very much. I just have one thing to ask you. Will the frost hurt the rhubarb?
Day #9: Tell us about your day in detail.
Let me start by saying I am sorry to bore you with this post lol. My days are pretty routine and boring when I am not in school. I do not enjoy summer break very much after the first few weeks. I enjoy a small break but the whole summer just give me to much time on my hands.
My day started around 9:30 when I woke up. After I woke up I got into a shower and then cleaned the house. At around noon I had lunch. I started watching Switched at Birth on Netflix while I had lunch. I then made a cake and continued to watch my show. After I cleaned up my mess from lunch and making a cake I played on Farmville 2 for a bit while continuing my show. Around 4 I started dinner so that Rey could eat dinner when he got home around 5. Rey has to get up at 2 to be at work at 4 am so I like to have dinner ready when he gets home so he can eat right away and get an hour or so of relaxing before he has to go to sleep. After he went to bed I cleaned up our dinner dishes and the finished the last episode they had of Switched at Birth on Netflix. So all in all I had a good but not very exciting day. Now the problem I have for tomorrow is what show should I start on Netflix lol. Do you have any suggestions?
Although my days are boring I appreciate them. Rey works very hard to provide what we have and I appreciate that I have the luxury to sit around and just watch Netflix due to his hard work. I love you Rey and thank you for everything you do.
Day #8: Bands/Artists you have seen live
Todays post is an easy one for me considering I have only seen one (boy) band live. I know I am only 27 but going back to when I was 14 years old seems like a long time ago. When I was 14 my godmother, Sherry, took me to see The Backstreet Boys. I was so obsessed with that group. T-shirts, watches, posters, and CDs. You name it I had it as long as it had their picture on it lol. I will never forget the day Sherry called and told me she got tickets. I could hardly believe it. I was super excited.
I remember counting down the days until the concert. The drive to Los Angeles seemed to take forever. When we got to Los Angeles we went to a little restaurant and had dinner. It was nice but I was so excited I could hardly eat. I just wanted to get to the concert and get in our seats. When we finally got there it was crazy. There were so many girls with posters, security everywhere, and a lot of noise. It was a bit overwhelming. My godmother bought me a program and a t-shirt and we finally got to our seats.
The opening acts were a guy group with 3 members, that I can't remember the name of and Mandy Moore. I loved her right away. She wasn't really big yet but I remember her. Then The Backstreet Boys came out and it was awesome!!!! I had so much fun. I screamed until my head hurt, sang my lungs out, and had the time of my life. It was a great night. Now that I look back on it I realize it was one of the nicest things someone has done for me. My godmother did a lot of nice things for me and I am grateful for that and for her.
Have you been to any concerts? What was your first concert? Which has been your favorite?
Day #7: Post your favorite movie, TV show, band, and food.
I don't really like to post about favorites. I have such a hard time labeling something my favorite. I like a variety of things. So I am going to stray from this post a bit and post a few of my favorites of from each category rather than just one favorite.
I love movies. I buy them all the time. I have a good collection. Some of my favorites include: Dirty Dancing, Shrek, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Harry and the Hendersons, Pitch Perfect, Zombieland, Finding Nemo and The Hunger Games. I could watch all of those movies repeatedly and never get tired of them.
Some of my favorite Tv Shows are: Full House, Once Upon a Time, Family Guy, and The Gilmore Girls. I would have to say though that The Gilmore Girls are my top favorite. I have all 7 seasons and have watched each season at least 3 times.
I don't have a favorite musician, band, or group. I like all types of music. I really enjoy country music though. I like the older country musicians rather than the new ones. I like Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, Martina Mcbride, and George Strait.
I truly enjoy cooking so my favorite foods are the ones I make lol. I like my chicken enchiladas, my chicken strips, and my cupcakes. I also really love Reys pancakes. He makes great pancakes. Below is a picture of my chicken enchiladas. Foods that I enjoy eating out are Sundowners Chef Salad and a patty melt. You can never go wrong with a patty melt.
I hope you have enjoyed hearing some of my favorites. What are some of your favorites? I would love for you to share.
Day #6: Tell us about your pets, the ones you've had and lost.
To be honest I haven't really had many pets. I've only had two long term pets. Bubbles and Tyler. I will get to them in a bit. I don't currently have a pet but I would absolutely love to have a dog. I am in love with pugs. They are just so adorable with their bug eyes and their scrunched faces. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I don't really see eye to eye on the whole having a pet issue. Pets are a huge responsibility and take a lot of time. I understand that but I just cant help myself. I want a pug so darn bad. Rey has very valid points and I have to agree with him. I am at school at least 3 days a week if not more and Rey works all week. So I guess it really isn't fair to have a pet we can't devote more time to. Well, now that I have way over explained that, I will get to the pets I have had.
When I was younger my parents had a dog that had puppies. I adored the runt and named her kisser, because she loved to give kisses. It didn't last long though because by the time I got home from school all the puppies including kisser were gone. I am still mad about that lol.
The next pet I can remember having was a lop eared bunny. It was an adorable little thing. It was so fluffy and cuddly. The bunny didn't last long either. It ended up getting loose from its cage/box. So as you can see this was kind of a trend. Pets didn't last long with me.
That brings me to my cat Bubbles. I got her when I was in high school. She was a beautiful white cat with gray spots on her body and a gray tail. My cousin and I picked the cats out together. She got a male and I got a female. Walter and Bubbles. I had her for a few years. what I am going to say next is going to make me sound crazy but I swear I am not. Our neighbors had a male cat named Sammy and he had 6 toes on each of his front paws. Well, believe it or not, Sammy and Bubbles liked each other. He used to come to our screen door and just meow and meow until she went outside with him. Bubbles ended up having one kitten. All white with 6 toes on his front paws. I remember how cute his walk was. It was like watching a wind up toy, one paw in front of the other. I named him puppy. Yes, I know it was weird, but that is just how I am. Unfortunately Sammy ended up disappearing. It happened to a lot of the male cats in our neighborhood. One day they would be there and the next day they were gone. The same happened to Puppy. As far as Bubbles goes, I honestly don't remember what happened to her. It kind of makes me sad that I don't remember what happened to her but remember all those other details. That brings me to Tyler.
I didn't have another pet until I was like 19. I was living with my grandparents at the time. One day we were in the front yard with the gate open and a super cute black Chihuahua mix came in the yard to get a drink from the sprinklers. I had seen him running the neighborhood a few days before and knew he was a stray. I couldn't help myself. I gave him food, water, and a bath that day. After that he was just mine. Here is a picture of my grandpa, his reindeer Chihuahua Rascal, and Tyler.
Tyler had a limp when he wandered in the yard so me and my grandmother took him to the vet. Turns out his leg was broken at one time and it didn't properly heal so he would always have a limp. That just made him special to me. Tyler was my baby. I took him places with me, bought him things, had my grandparents watch him while I was gone. He became family. Eventually we got two more dogs and they became family. When I moved away I took Tyler with me and he wasn't the same dog. He was sad and didn't like it. His whole personality changed. It was liked he missed the other two dogs. When I moved back he was so happy to be with the other dogs again. He was like the old Tyler. I knew then that I couldn't take him with me when I left again. So he became my grandparents dog. I mean he was still mine while I was there but we all knew I couldn't take him away from the other dogs. So once again the trend continues. Maybe I am just not meant to be a pet owner.
Do you have any pets? If so, how many and what kind? If not, why?
